I am always looking for talented authors to work with. As a very small agency, I can take on very few new authors a year – but I do read and consider carefully every submission I receive and aim to respond personally (not by dreaded form letter) within 3-4 weeks of receipt. Please direct all submissions to robert [at] independentliterary.com, including a covering note in the body of your email and, in the case of novels, attaching a synopsis and the first 50-100 pages of the manuscript. For non-fiction, please send through a chapter breakdown, sample of writing and a one-page pitch detailing the kind of work you’re writing.
I am looking for novels that take me to other places and times: historical, espionage, science fiction, fantasy, literary novels, magical realism, horror, psychological thriller and all the many points in-between. I’m looking, too, for my first steps into children’s fiction and would love to see more in this area. In non-fiction, unique memoirs, natural histories, popular science and people with unique lives who need help telling their stories would all find a home here.
If you’re not sure if your work would be for me, don’t be afraid to get in touch! Unlike lots of agents… I’m human, I’m an author too, and I know what it’s like to send out these emails and wait nervously to hear back.
